It’s not hard to pick up the phone and order four dozen cupcakes. It is more challenging to balance the four dozen while holding an umbrella and walking in heels in the rain at 7 a.m. But you pull it off.
It takes even more gumption when then you are asked to arrange the cupcakes in a numerical formation and bring them into an executive meeting of forty people on a wheelie tray – while bursting into Happy Birthday, with everyone to follow along.
Standing outside of those big wooden doors, your skills at politics, economics, and law fall to the wayside. Instead of hoping for respect of the folks inside the room, you hope you can carry a tune. You remember the time you sang in front of the school when you were eight. “If all the raindrops were like lemon drops and gum drops…oh, what a rain that would be.” You did it then, you can do it now.
You’d rather be sitting at that table waiting to get a cupcake. But its not yet your time. Still, that’s not going to stop you from pulling out your inner pop diva for this one. They’ll think you were born to do this, and they don’t need to know you weren’t.
The doors swing open, you pull out the biggest smile you have, and you sing.
