I saw an advertisement during the Superbowl for the movie Cowboys vs. Aliens. It’s not a movie that’s really up my alley, but the mental connection that I had made me laugh.
The Foundation vs. The Wamulians.
When we first moved back to the U.S. from our time in London, my brother and sister-in-law came down from Canada for a visit.  Their mission (in addition to having a nice visit): to make sure that the U.S. culture wasn’t starting to erode my husband and I away to right-wing zombies.  I think we were passing the test until we started spewing our corporate jargon.
It’s funny how organizational culture seems so normal inside that organization.  It’s only when you start interacting in real life that it sounds like something from a sci-fi movie.  Again, it all comes back to superheros.
What’s sad about this particular face-off is that we know how the Wamulian story ended.  Collapse of the mothership.  Launching thousands of  jobless Wamulians out into the wilderness to roam the North American financial graveyards.  Good news is…The Foundation remains strong, as it should – being a foundation after all.   And having outlasted the Wamulians, it seems to be spreading its domination.  This week, I barely flinched when my new workplace in Canada said we’d be referring to ourselves as The Foundation.
Organizational culture.  It’s a little like Dr. Evil and his cat.  Mwahahahaha.
