Today marks the end of my summer staycation and my three month+ absence from air travel. I’m not quite ready to let go of summer. Since summer actually began in July, I feel entitled to taking September as well. But as the rest of the world is starting school, stuck in traffic and planning their holiday travel, I know that I’ll end up in the flow.
Here’s what I did on my summer staycation:
- Pole Dancing: Very unusable skill. I’ve yet been able to practice any swings, feeling that using stop signs and light poles isn’t exactly appropriate.
- High Ropes Course: I’ve learned that I can talk a big game, but am pretty wussy when it come to balancing on high wires and trusting myself to hook myself on correctly.
- Dukan Diet: Never really one to diet, this is a first. After a summer of beer-league softball, its a fine time to cut the carbs.
- Curriculum Design: How the heck did I even find this one? In my quest to teach, I ended up in a teleseminar on designing courses. And loved it.
- Kayaking: Considering we live on a river, it did make sense to learn how to paddle. We waited until this past week to do it (i.e. end of the season). Hopefully, the eddy turn training survives winter hibernation.
- Knitting: Nothing like sliding right into a winter activity. Between this and my crosswords, I’ll be ready for hibernation. Everyone is getting dish towels for Christmas.
