Amazon continues to service my impatience with it’s 1-click shopping.  I love it and hate it.  Love it because I’ve ordered most of my Christmas gifts through them.  Hate it because when I’m lying in bed and wanting something to read, I’m chained to the $12.99 option of buying a book that I’ll read once and won’t be able to loan out.
My Kindle has killed my relationship with the library.  Before the Kindle, I only got books from the library.  I became a master of the HOLD system.  Yes, I would wander through bookstores, but only to look.  Always astounded by the cost (this is Canada, books prices are outrageous).   The book store provided my list for the library.
I adore the library.  The approach, the doors, the entry, the little security guard, the smell.  I love wandering around the new arrivals, touching the spines.  I feel smarter just by being in the library.  And my frugal soul, loves that it is free.  (Well, nearly.)
Summer as a kid consisted of lots of library time.  But the best was the Bookmobile.  My parents worked, so my summer fun consisted of where I could go with two feet and younger sister in tow.  It was the glorious days when I knew the Bookmobile would be at the park.  I’d leave my bowl of popcorn and All My Children, and head over to the air-conditioned heaven-on-wheels to get a huge haul of books.  Those were winning summer days.
The bookmobile was the convenience of today’s Kindle combine with the experience and price of the library.  There’s nothing like it today where I live.  And I guarantee, if someone wanted to do it, I’d be the first in line when that door opens.
